A person may have a bad attitude about life or did criminal action in the pass or present and at the same time go out and save someone. This person should be consider a hero regardless of his behavior or personality. I think that heroic action make a Hero.however a person behavior and personality should not affect our idea of what a hero should be like.
Take for example the movie Hero, the character Bernard La Plante played by Dustin Hoffman he had bad attitude about life and commits several crime. The seen he played in the movie was very heroic ,he rescue 54 people who was trapped in a crash plane that was on fire, although this was not in Mr La Plante character. He did not care for people except for this son. He is not a nice man he swears ,steals purses and wallets of people and sell's stollen goods for a living. However his action was remarkable he broke down the plane door went inside and carry out people to safety. Then there is Andy Garcia Bernard's friend his character was John Blubber, he had a better prospective about life. He was homeless and sell soda cans for a living. This part in the movie demonstrate that people are human and life struggle can cause even the best person to do things that are inhuman. There was a million dollars reward for the person who rescue the passenger form the plane.Bernard was unaware of the award unlike his friend blubber . Blubber took the million dollars and all the fame. He got cleaned up and was no longer living in his car. Taking the money is not Blubber's characteristics however at the same time he did something heroic, he ordered blanket for all the homeless people and spent his time making children feeling worthwhile by giving them hope. In one of the hospital Mr Blubber visited, there was a boy in a coma, Mr Blubber speak to the boy and encourage him to wake up. In a couple of days the boy was out of his comatose state. At the very end of the movie John Blubber was feeling guilty for taking the money he treated to commit subside. Once again Mr Bernard performance was incredible, he convince his friend not to jump off the ledge of a high rise building. The movie end with both men sharing the money.
We have a few legendary heroes of the pass. Take for instant Dr Martin Luther King civil right activist and minister. He die frighting the war of civil rights for humanities. Dr King risk his life and his families protesting for the cause he believing in. He believe blacks people should have the same rights as white people. In the pass it was very hard for black people to live they were treated as slaves no dignity or respect and even sometime was beaten. Dr. King dedicated his life preaching and protesting to put an end to segregation and hope for unity for humanities. There is also Harriet Tugman who was unselfish, during slavery she gain her freedom and wish to go back to save her families and friends. She went to Philadelphia and joined the anti-slavery organization.This is the organization who organize the underground railroad, a secret network that help the slaves escape from bondage in the south.Through this organization Harriet lead her families and friends to freedom.
In addition, I usually see on the news the mayor of a particular town arrive on the crime or incident site after the crime or incident however on the news about two weeks ago Cory Booker mayor of Newark New Jersey came home and fine his neighbor home on fire. Mr Booker heard his neighbor screaming that her daughter is still inside the house.while Mayor Booker proceed to enter the house the Newark Detective tried to stop him from entering in the house but mayor argue with them and he went into the house and rescue his neighbor's daughter. I think this was a great story , and I was inspired by the mayor's heroic action.
Heroes are people who commits heroic acts, however regardless of the heroes personality and behavior we should not let it affects the way we think about them.
